  4. One-gallon measuring containers with 1 qt. increments
  5. 5-gallon (or larger) mixing containers
  6. Brushes and/or rollers to apply the primer coat
  7. Trowels (BOTTOM SURFACE MUST BE COMPLETELY CLEAN!!)
  8. Concrete edgers and tools for installing dummy joints
  9. Heavy-duty drill with 4-6" wide paddle or grout mixer
  10. Electrical generator or available electricity
  11. Acetone for tool clean-up
  12. Container with lid, in which trowels and tools will fit flat on bottom, bathed in 1-2" of acetone, immediately after using
  13. Pumice stone for feather edging and smoothing
  14. Duct tape
  15. Rags and hand cleaner

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:

1.    MIX FLEXKRETE WELL BEFORE USING:

  • Remove lid and power mix until all settlement is dispersed.

2.    CLEAN SURFACE:

  • All surfaces should be clean, free of oil, dirt, debris, grease, scale, coatings, contamination and moisture.  Any existing asphalt materials should be removed prior to application.  NEW CONCRETE should be aged for 28 days and should be clean and free of form release agents, curing agents, waterproofing agents and any other coating.  For best results, a clean, rough concrete surface should be exposed.

3.   TAPE:

  •  For straight lines, and a professional, full-depth repair look, tape around area to be repaired

4.    MIX & PRIME:

  • Determine how much primer is needed for the defined work, then pour the appropriate amount of FlexKrete into the measuring container.  Add the indicated amount of catalyst, (1.2oz. for one gallon, 0.5oz. for a half-gallon, 0.25oz. for one quart, etc.) then mix with the mixer for 30-60 seconds.  Apply liberally to the areas with brush and/or roller, making certain that all facets are coated and voids are covered.  The slurry may be applied immediately after priming, or time may be allowed to pass, as long as the primed area remains clean.  Finish on the same day.

5.    MIX & TROWEL

  • Catalyze FlexKrete, as in the previous step, then power mix in, 3-4 parts clean, dry, medium or coarse-grade blasting sand for 2 minutes or until thoroughly blended.  Trowel into place, feather-edge to tape, and pull tape.

SLURRY:

A FlexKrete/sand mix ratio should be about 3½ - 4 parts sand for the best       trowelability.  CATALYZE BEFORE ADDING SAND. Use 20-40 mesh (coarse) blasting sand, or a mixture of 20-40  and 40-60 mesh, (fine) for excellent results.  Mix only the amount of material that can be poured and troweled within the setup time (approx. 15-20 minutes).

DEEP HOLES:

For repairs 2-4" deep or more, small angular gravel mixed with FlexKrete may be used to fill within ½-1" or surface.  Then, use the same FlexKrete/sand mix to finish, feather-edging to the duct tape.  DO NOT OVER-TROWEL.  When the material begins to pull, finish or pat smooth with trowel.  Wipe trowel with acetone-wet rag for last-minute-smooth finishes.  Install dummy joints, pull duct tape up and allow to cure.  Normally, 45-90 minutes are needed for return to full traffic.

RETAIN EXPANSION JOINTS:

Where the repair borders joints or other obvious points of movement, ALWAYS retain that joint or crack to allow continuous movement.  Saw cut through the FlexKrete repair to maintain the joint, or use an edging tool.  Finish by using a sealant in the joint.

TO VARY COLOR:

Less sand gives a grayer color, more sand gives a tanner color.

VERTICALS:

Prep and prime as above.  Mix into catalyzed FlexKrete. 2 parts sand and 2 parts fumed silica.  Trowel into place.  (Sand and fumed silica ratio may vary depending on the area)

BROADCAST SYSTEM:

Clean concrete of all dirt, oil, sealers, and debris to yield a clean, dry, rough substrate.  Roll out FlexKrete at the rate of 50-100 square feet per gallon.   Back-roll to assure there are no puddles or ridges.  IMMEDIATELY broadcast the aggregate of your choice (i.e.. blasting sand, colored quartz granules, aluminum oxide, Black Beauty, etc.) onto the wet surface.  Broadcast evenly, to refusal, until there are no wet spots showing.  After material hardens (about an hour), remove all loose aggregate with a still bristle broom.  Seal with FlexSealer 1000, and return to traffic in 30 minutes.

TIPS YOU SHOULD KNOW

  1. TO MIX IN SAND...a large square mud paddle works best.  A round jiffy mixer will not blend the sand and liquid adequately.
  2. FOR EASY TROWELING...a clean, shiny, stainless trowel works best.
  3. CLEAN TOOLS...with acetone.  Put tools in 5 gallon pail with 1" of acetone and replace lid.
  4. FOR FINISHING...an acetone-wet rag can be used to keep trowel clean.
  5. ALWAYS MIX...catalyst and FlexKrete FIRST!!!
  6. DO NOT PUT ACETONE...directly onto patch material.
  7. NO WATER ALLOWED...use very  thin coating of FlexPrime on damp surfaces.
